Emperors Palace MTB Classic

24 March 2018

The MTB event consists of a 25km track which riders complete either once or twice. Click here to view the Route Profile & Map
Riders get to experience the excitement of riding in the shadow of the aircraft on the grounds of OR Tambo International Airport. It’s urban mountain biking at its best and it’s so close and easily accessible for riders from all over Gauteng.
The course remains largely unchanged. It’s user-friendly – also for newbies getting into the spirt  - and mildy undulating, with some tar work thrown in.
There is just one technical drop-off on the 25km track where riders have the option to either take the dive or use the chicken run on the side.
The route is essentially made up of three sections. The first bit is through a forest, then round the dam and suburbs, and finally a seven-kilometre flat section right next to the OR Tambo runways before heading back to Emperors Palace on pavement and jeep track.
The tree section is absolute bliss. It consists of 6km of winding forest with more than enough room to overtake and slightly downhill – so it’s nice and fast!
